Why not? You get both, and because standards for photo is much higher than for video, why not benefit from that for video?

I have to agree with a1mint; before long, camcorders will be dead. I do freelance work for a high-end videography business (clients including Fujifilm), and we use a Sony EX1 HD camera, and the boss bought a Canon 5D MKII a couple of weeks ago to add more perspective with 2 cameras filming at the same time. Also, theres so many more options you have with interchangeable lenses. The HD is more than comparable and the cameras’ a lot cheaper than buying a new Sony EX1. Results are AWESOME!

should I buy this DSLR? I have a Sony Camcorder DCR-SR40, and the video quality is really shite. I like taking pictures too but I want something good. Could the T1i be my Cam?

@NSrailfan1 You can take pictures while recording video. Particularly with the T1i. It allows you take pics while continuously recording video.
