Even though it is a lot less money, is the Pentax X70 close to the same quality as the Canon Rebel T1i?

No, they are Apple & Orange.
The Pentax X70 is a Mega-zoom prosumer P & S digicam.
The Rebel T1i is a DSLR.
There is no comparison between them.
No, they are not comparable at all. One (the Pentax) is a point-n-shoot where as the Canon is a digital SLR. A better and reasonable comparison would be Pentax’s excellent K-x versus the Canon Rebel T1i. The Pentax is probably still a bit cheaper but more than comparable as both are digital SLRs with similarly sized sensors and interchangeable lenses.
no, the t1i is a million times better than the x70. it’s not even comparable.
Although the Pentax is a Point and Shoot, and the T1i is a DSLR, there may be some comparibility between the 2 depending on what lens you plan to use with the T1I. The X70 has a built-in
4mm-110mm lens. The T1i has a 18-55mm kit lens. In this case, the X70 would give you more options to choose from because you have more distance.
However, if you do not use the kit lens and buy a different lens (ex. 75-300mm) then the cameras are in no way compareable.
Good luck!
