Is the fisheye lens for Canon Rebel T1i a good choice?
Question by Karen: Is the fisheye lens for Canon Rebel T1i a good choice?
I have a canon rebel t1i with the 18-55mm lens now and was looking for another lens. I have found the ones that fit the 58mm thread (fisheye, macro) to be really cheap and was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this lens and what their opinion of it was. Thanks!!

to be really cheap …
.
Says it all right there..
.
Sure, you will get images but you can get images shooting through the bottom of a Coke bottle too..
.
If cheap enuf, go ahead and experiment..

It is not a fisheye (180 degree view) nor is it a macro (able to shoot flat field at 1:1 image to subject ratio).
What it is, is a cheap add-on lens that promises much but cannot deliver what a $1,400 Canon 8-15 mm fisheye and $460 Canon 60 mm macro can.
As you can see, $1,400 + $460 does NOT = $40
If you want a toy, then the screw-on device is fine.
If you want quality, you are going to have to pay for it
I have that same exact camera and lense! I know exactly how you feel, i’ve been looking everywhere for a fisheye lense for my camera also.
I have a Phoenix superfish eye.25x that I picked up for $100 (although I see it online for a bit cheaper)and fits onto my Cannon Rebel T1i 18-55mm lens. It is great for creative shots but when zoomed in all the way it leaves a reflective ring around the photo. Which can of course be fixed with any photo editing program. It does not work as an independent lens and must be attached to the end of your existing lens. It is not top of the line by any means but if you are only looking to have fun…. it gets the job done. I have one shot that looks like it is actually a drop of water and the face in it is a reflection in the water.
It seems durable enough, although I haven’t dropped it. The only down side is mine came with a lens cap but not a butt cap which is a pain in the neck. It does come with a small bag but it is a horribly tight fit to get that wide lens into that tiny bag. If you are wanting professional looking photos, save the hundred dollars and double it on another lens. If your pockets are not deep, like mine, it is something to consider.
