Oh and, if yes, what kind of lenses and accessories would you recommend I start out with?

yes.Canon Digital Rebel T1i is a good camera
New 15.1-megapixel CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor
Includes Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens
Full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 resolution; HDMI output
3.0-inch Clear View LCD; Live View Function for stills (Quick, Live and Face Detection AF modes) and video”
Yes and no. There is a beginner new to SLRs, and there is a beginner that is familiar with SLRs. if you are not familiar with SLRs, I would suggest starting a little lower, with a XS or XTi. If you are looking entry level, the T1i may be a little more advanced. It’s no 40/50D but it is still more advanced. I shoot a 50D, and the T1i is my second body.
Sure! rebel is very good and fresh camera from canon.
Look this
wont u buy a nikon if thats the case? my sis had hers..a d90..she doesnt know how to use it either..and shes learning..
well,u dnt have to bea bgner or an expert.coz once u buy one,no mattr how complex it is,u’d learn to use it in time.. also,if ud buy a cheaper one or a simpler one, what happens when u’d be that good? u cant buy another camera just that easy..right? just a thought =D
For beginner I would suggest get cheap camera body like Canon Rebel XS to learn every things, how to use DSLR and save your money for another good lens.In the future you can upgrade to better pro-camera body you can use you stock lens.
However if you don’t have plan to change camera in next few year Canon Rebel T1i is a good camera to get
and which lens is depend on your purpose.May be you get 18-200mm is is a good walkaround lens,Canon 100mm for macro, Canon 70-200mm for telephoto.Canon 17-40mm for wide angle.
