Can you upload pictures without using the solution disk with the Canon t1i?

Sarah asked:
My computer is all out of space (between my sister and I) and I don’t get a new one until Christmas. I am by no means that patient to upload any pictures from my Canon T1I. I have deleted all the files possible, but my sister is too stubborn to do the same. Do I /have/ to instal the solution disk, or can I do with out it?

Sure. The really simple way is with a card reader. They’re available where ever cameras are sold for little $$. No extra software, no cable, no hassle.
Solution disk? First time I encountered the CD referred to that way. Solution disk.
If you have the USB cable that came with the camera, you can connect the camera directly to the computer and use My Computer (in Windows) or Finder (in the Mac) to move files around. Your camera should appear as a Removable Storage Device or something to the tune of that.
If that doesn’t work, get a cheap USB card reader and use that to connect the camera’s memory card directly to the computer. Use My Computer or Finder as indicated above.
Why not get your sister to back up her files to a blank DVd or a few blank DVDs?
Then reclaim the space.
The software is required if you intend to shoot in RAW mode or if you want to use tethered capture.
If not then shoot away with JPEGS an use a card reader.
